TEST BENCH AND PROTOCOL
Our analysis today will be conducted with our Asus Z77 Premium Test Bench. Clicking on any pictures or benchmarks will bring up a more easily viewable high resolution image.
In testing, our main objective is to obtain results as pure and as accurate as possible and we want to ensure that no anomalies slip through. Simply put, we want to provide you with the absolute best results the tested hardware can provide.
Repetition in testing is standard and, if necessary, we may conduct specific tests in Windows 7 safe mode to ensure the OS has little to no influence on the end result.
In order to validate and confirm our findings, testing is supported by industry accepted benchmark programs. All results are displayed through capture of the actual benchmark for better understanding of the testing process by the reader.

BENCHMARK SOFTWARE
The software we will be using for today’s analysis is typical of many of our reviews and consists of ATTO Disk Benchmark, Crystal DiskMark, AS SSD, Anvil Storage Utilities and PCMark Vantage. We rely on these as they each have a way of supporting one another yet, at the same time, adding a new performance benchmark to the total picture. Much of the software is free and can be downloaded simply by clicking on the linked title.
THE LSI SANDFORCE SF-1222 CONTROLLER
All SSDs are not created equal and many new SSD enthusiasts realize that when they test their new drive to confirm specifications and ensure all is in order. SandForce controlled SSDs, as in the Solidata K8-1920E SSD we are testing today, use compression techniques in storage whereas many others do not. This creates a bit of confusion when enthusiasts test the drive with random data through benchmarking programs such as AS SSD and Crystal DiskMark. The results seem to be lower than the listed specifications.
The results actually present a false portrayal of the drives ability when compared to other drives such as Samsung, Crucial or Intel. It is for this reason that all of our comparison testing is done through PCMark Vantage. PCMark Vantage HDD Suite simply provides evaluation results based on transfer speeds reached through typical user patterns. Vantage provides a better testing medium, in that, it sees through the typical synthetic benchmarks and provides us with ‘true to life’ results of the drive.
Crystal Disk Info provides some excellent information about the SSD itself to include its health, product information, power on information as well as the characteristics of the SSD. As much as many think very little can be learned from this result with absolutely no SMART data available, the fact that TRIM was not highlighted became very obvious.
With this, we decided to run a new program called TRIMcheck in order to see if TRIM was working on the K8, to which TRIMcheck seemed to support the fact that TRIM was not working on the JMicron JMB393 controller. TRIMcheck is currently a hot topic in our SSD Forums where our forum expertise, along with the software developer, is helping to fine tune and solve any bugs that may arise. The software is free and can be found here.
TRIM does not work with this RAID Controller as it doesn’t on most. Don’t give up all hope just yet though as we explain the TRIM/GC comparison and key features that just might overcome this issue in our final analysis.
way too expensive, getting 4 480gb sandforce async for same performance is around 1200-1400, this is 4x that cost lol. may as well grab two of those crucial 960gb at 1200, better solution and much faster performance, right?

This product is most certainly very niche, but oh well.
That’s the notion, you could line them up in raid zero and couple it with a high end graphics card and turbo cloaked CPU then it’s like rocketing performance through the stratosphere. Amazing stuff, can’t wait to build a system based on these specs like described in https://ssd480.com

Don’t forget that this is a niche product and not to be compared to consumer SSD such as a Samsung 840 – nobody needs 2TB of SSD storage for storing videos and games etc – this is for use where only 1 disk slot is available – or to give maximum storage for the physical size – high end video recording cameras, SAN appliances where physical space is key – it’s not really for the desktop user – Great pro review from Les!
the Samsung is way better with controller and speed, especially in RAID.
this is just a product to get fast money out of rich suckers.

and 2 TB is nothing special.
nowdays everyone wants a few TB for video’s , a High quality blue ray movie can easy be 10GB or more.
and i got games that are 30 Gb and more.
so maybe you got a shitty desktop and don’t need it .
but dont speak for my desktop and what i need.
