ATTO Disk Benchmark is perhaps one of the oldest benchmarks going and is definitely the main staple for manufacturer performance specifications. ATTO uses RAW or compressible data and, for our benchmarks, we use a set length of 256mb and test both the read and write performance of various transfer sizes ranging from 0.5 to 8192kb. Manufacturers prefer this method of testing as it deals with raw (compressible) data rather than random (includes incompressible data) which, although more realistic, results in lower performance results. Please click on the result should it be hard to read on smaller monitors.
In these results, the 2TB is left and the 500GB right. Although we fell just short of listed specs in both read results, the write specifications were pretty much dead on. Another positive sign that this is a strong SSD that we have noticed with ATTO, is that performance increases steadily and gradually as sample sizes increase.
CRYSTAL DISK BENCHMARK VER. 5.5.0 X64
Crystal Disk Benchmark is used to measure read and write performance through sampling of random data which is, for the most part, incompressible. Performance is virtually identical, regardless of data sample so we have included only that using random data samples. Once again, the 2TB capacity is left and 500GB capacity right.
These are both very strong results and, quite frankly not expected of the EVO, the 500GB result on the right being the highlight. Where specs list the 500GB at 3.4GB/s read and 2.3GB/s write, we see just under 3.6GB/s read and close to 2.5GB/s write. The toughest benchmark available for solid state drives is AS SSD as it relies solely on incompressible data samples when testing performance. For the most part, AS SSD tests can be considered the ‘worst case scenario’ in obtaining data transfer speeds and many enthusiasts like AS SSD for their needs.
We will follow much the same pattern of the 2TB on the left and 500GB on the right:
THROUGHPUT
IOPS
COPY BENCHMARK
AS SSD displays decent performance, although it brings performance down slightly as is typical with this software.
