PCMARK VANTAGE HDD SUITE
The SSD Review uses benchmark software called PCMark Vantage x64 HDD Suite to create testing scenarios that might be used in the typical user experience. There are eight tests in all and the tests performed record the speed of data movement in MB/s to which they are then given a numerical score after all of the tests are complete. The simulations are as follows:
- Windows Defender In Use
- Streaming Data from storage in games such as Alan Wake which allows for massive worlds and riveting non-stop action
- Importing digital photos into Windows Photo Gallery
- Starting the Vista Operating System
- Home Video editing with Movie Maker which can be very time consuming
- Media Center which can handle video recording, time shifting and streaming from Windows media center to an extender such as XBox
- Cataloging a music library
- Starting applications
If you have been progressing through this review of the RunCore ProV 240GB SSD, you know that we choose to use PCMark Vantage as our sole source of comparison testing. We evaluate with this software because, in our opinion, it is the best benchmarking software available that can compare any type of SSD side by side.
Our testing of the RunCore ProV SSD resulted in a score so high (47592) that we tested it twice, the second time receiving a score of 47384. This second tests confirms that their wasn’t some freak occurrence within ‘the machine’ to result in such high scoring. In fact, the result of this test with a single SSD surpasses that of our RAID testing of a few weeks prior with 2xSamsung 470 series 256GB SSDs in RAID 0. This has never been done before.
