Western Digital Blue SN5000 4TB Gen 4 SSD Review – TLC or QLC Memory – You Pick

3D MARK STORAGE GAMING BENCHMARK

UL Solutions has created a new storage gaming benchmark that we will start to use as new SSDs come in. The 3DMark Storage Benchmark DLC extends 3DMark Advanced Edition with a dedicated component test for measuring the gaming performance of SSDs and other storage hardware. It supports all the latest storage technologies and tests practical, real-world gaming performance for activities such as loading games, saving progress, installing game files, and recording gameplay video streams.

The WD Blue SN5000 once again placed 12th in all SSDs tested in 3DMark to date.

REPORT ANALYSIS AND FINAL THOUGHTS

There was a time when so many would scream and shout if a manufacturer dare enter a DRAMless SSD into retail sales.  I can remember some very vocal threads that went on and on.  And there was a time not so long ago that the same could be spoken of with respect to QLC NAND flash memory. And then Corsair introduced their MP600 Core XT (reviewed here) and it had remarkably similar results considering.  Both can boast capacities to 4TB and both are single sided solution with decent temps to enable laptop use.  Both have moved us away from the idea that QLC NAND and DRAMless SSDs should be a careful consideration.  In fact, most wouldn’t even consider the terms QLC or DRAMless in purchasing the WD Blue SN5000 as the performance, price and endurance is respectable.

The simple fact is SSDs such as the WD Blue provide for those that need decent speed higher capacity SSDs at a price that won’t break the bank.  The WDBlue seems to achieve just that with speeds above 5GB/s read and write with just under a million IOPS, plenty of capacity points, a 5-year warranty and, well at the time of this writing, an unbeatable price of $93 for the 2TB version.  That is the same price as we see for the 500GB and lower than the 1GB by $13.  That is great pricing and we are fairly certain it just may be a mistake.
