REAL WORLD FILE TRANSFER COMPARISON
We have put the SK hynix Gold P31 NVMe SSD beside the best in the business for our true to life data testing. In this test, we simply place 15GB files representing music, video, pictures and operating systems onto the target drive. We then copy each file from one place on the target disk to another, recording the time taken for the transfer.
The SK Hynix Gold P31 NVMe SSD is the third best result we have ever obtained in our true data testing. Very Impressive.
REVIEW ANALYSIS AND FINAL THOUGHTS
The SK hynix Gold P31 NVMe SSD is going to hit the SSD industry with a bang…a very loud bang. Not only does there introduction of 128-Layer TLC memory really show off this product, but the fact that it is very much a premium SSD with a very low price point just might force others to bring down their prices to keep up. And that’s a good thing. It is something that we might typically see from Crucial/Micron a few years back. It is totally unexpected.
The speeds shown in this SSD are consistent, regardless of what benchmark we through at the P31. It spat out some of the best performance we have ever seen from a PCIe 3.0 SSD and the performance was consistent throughout…right into PCMark 8 testing where it was amongst our Top 10. Even more surprising was how the SK hynix P31 sailed through out true data testing, surpassing some of the best in the business…and even a PCIe 4 SSD to boot.
We consider three things for every SSD we review; performance, pricing and warranty. Very few can hit the sweet spot of all three; SK hynix has. For a 1TB SSD that hits performance of just under 3500MB/s read and write, has IOPS well north of 600K, a five year warranty and has an MSRP of $134… Editor’s Choice. Welcome and congratulations SK hynix. Very well deserved.
Just gone one yesterday to replace the OEM 256GB hynix SSD that came with my desktop.
MUCH cooler, MUCH faster, especially on writes and what a bargain price for the performance, lifespan, excellent write perf, and its cool. The old drive would hit 60-80C, this is barely warm.
Price this against a 970 or 8200 pro or black SN750 with a heatsink (you’ll want one with those, they run MUCH warmer!) and see what a bargain this is.
Yes it took them a bit to enter the retail market but i think they will do very well. Many are unaware that they have been commonplace in many laptops for some time.
