3D MARK STORAGE GAMING BENCHMARK
UL Solutions has created a new storage gaming benchmark that we will start to use as new SSDs come in. The 3DMark Storage Benchmark DLC extends 3DMark Advanced Edition with a dedicated component test for measuring the gaming performance of SSDs and other storage hardware. It supports all the latest storage technologies and tests practical, real-world gaming performance for activities such as loading games, saving progress, installing game files, and recording gameplay video streams.
The Samsung 990 Pro placed fourth in our 3DMark Storage benchmark results with a score of 4978.
REPORT ANALYSIS AND FINAL THOUGHTS
Let’s just cut to the chase in summing up this report. The Samsung 990 Pro 4TB NVMe. SSD is a must have for anyone who needs speed, capacity, a low temperature solution, and an SSD with a reputation for endurance and a great 5-year warranty. The 990 pro topped every test we have thrown at it and then some. With speeds as fast as 7.1GB/s, and IOPS up to 1.6 million, this SSD is a must have for those looking for a fast, cheap SSD with a great warranty and one that has capacity. But wait… that’s not all.
Samsung SSDs come with the Samsung Magician and the latest release is show here. It is available here. This has just become a very important downlaod as it now contains a ‘Full performance Mode’ for those speed demons out there. Typically, SSD firmware is set to accommodate as many brands and types of SSDs as possible without difficulty. Samsung has bumped that once more with Performance mode and we can validate that all of our testing today is with performance mode turned on. There is a difference so you definitely want to get the download and turn it on.
Summarizing for those that simply jumped to this last page and want to know if this SSD is something they must have, the answer is yes. The Samsung 990 pro 4TB is the fastest and highest capacity SSD of the Gen 4 era. It comes with a 5-year limited warranty and we believe that this SSD will easily be the best value for the buck once released in the next few weeks. Our reason for this belief simply follows the pricing we are seeing for the one and two TB capacities right now.
TBW?
along with a 4GB LPDDR4 memory buffer, 1TB buffer for the 1TB capacity and 2GB for the 2TB
1GB buffer for TB capacity.
😉
Does Samsung offer an easy way to switch the drive to 4KN yet? I love the Samsung magician software, but that has been a missing feature for me on their drives. Sabrent drives have janky supporting software, but their sector resize tool gets the job done.
The Samsung 990 pro is single sided. Not only that, it runs cool as an SSD should which means it is probably the first choice in SSDs today to get thrown into an ultrabook, laptop, or even PS5.
But no 8tb, why!? Also no 16tb qvo…
