3D MARK STORAGE GAMING BENCHMARK
UL Solutions has created a new storage gaming benchmark that we will start to use as new SSDs come in. The 3DMark Storage Benchmark DLC extends 3DMark Advanced Edition with a dedicated component test for measuring the gaming performance of SSDs and other storage hardware. It supports all the latest storage technologies and tests practical, real-world gaming performance for activities such as loading games, saving progress, installing game files, and recording gameplay video streams.
Once again, we see the Sabrent Rocket 4 2230 right there with its brother Rocket 4 8TB. Particularly interesting though is how close this SSD has also been to the recently reviewed Micron 2550, anothe single controller single memory chip Gen 4 SSD.
REPORT ANALYSIS AND FINAL THOUGHTS
The Sabrent Rocket NVMe 4.0 2230 M.2 is not the only similar configuration SSD available as there have been a rash of others brought to market only recently. This brings forward a very important point which is searching out the right SSD for your needs. So many have fallen prey to no name SSD, CFExpress and SD card sales, only to later find out that they are cheap counterfeits… and being sold on reputable e-tailer websites. The Sabrent Rocket 4 2230 is a PCIe 4.0 NVMe M.2 SSD that is capable of throughput speeds up to 5GB/s and without the need for a cooler, although being able to have one never hurts.
Sabrent has a great reputation, one of the best in the business perhaps, has shown their confidence in this product with a 5-year warranty on registration (1-year otherwise) , and has price this right where it should be. It is pretty amazing that we can see 5GB/s speeds from a SSD smaller than a typical SD card.
If you think about it, the doors that can open with this technology are incredible. Would we like to see this in professional and enthusiast camera releases? What a thought! Drones? We guarantee this technology will be seen in smartphones soon enough… faster and higher capacity smartphones capable of so much more. For now though, Sabrent has flexed their muscle once again by introducing a product that may take others much longer to justify manufacture. Great job!

“Would you believe that Sabrent Rocket 4 2230 1TB SSD on the right side is a PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD capable of speeds up to 5GB/s and no cooling is necessary?”
Now, that is hard to believe when your Crystal Disk Info bench shows an idle temperature of 53 degree Centigrade…!
That is not the idle temperature, but rather, the highest temp we could push the SSD to in our testing. This is a bad habit formed from CFExpress testing where temps are so important.
“…is AS SSD as it relies solely on incompressible data samples when testing performance…” – wrong, due to a bug, AS-SSD has about 20-25% compressible portion, therefore Phison-Controller-based SSDs should be tested with AT LEAST 3GB Testfile-size setting.
