Sabrent Rocket 4 Plus-G Gaming SSD Review – Rocket 4 Plus-G Speed Catfight with the Samsung 990 Pro

3D MARK STORAGE GAMING BENCHMARK

UL Solutions has created a new storage gaming benchmark that we will start to use as new SSDs come in.  The 3DMark Storage Benchmark DLC extends 3DMark Advanced Edition with a dedicated component test for measuring the gaming performance of SSDs and other storage hardware. It supports all the latest storage technologies and tests practical, real-world gaming performance for activities such as loading games, saving progress, installing game files, and recording gameplay video streams.

3DMark is a fairly new tool in our toolbox and we have only tested a few other drives to date,  the SK hynix Platinum P41 scoring a 4225 and the KIOXIA XG8 client SSD achieving 3812 with the Samsung pro at 4947.  At 4433 Total Points, the Sabrent Rocket 4 Plus-G did well once again.

REPORT ANALYSIS AND FINAL THOUGHTS

The catfight between the two top Gen 4 NVMe M.2 SSDs was front and center in our testing for the Sabrent Rocket 4 Plus-G Gaming SSD and compliments have to go to Samsung for their manufacturing of their latest release, the 990 Plus.  It is an amazing SSD, as is the Rocket 4 Plus-G.  Working your way through our testing, you may tend to side with the 990 Plus as being the Top Dog but remember, the Sabrent Rocket 4 Plus-G Gaming SSD is the only with firmware created specifically for DirectStorage.   Of particular interest, however, is the fact that the ONLY two SSDs to ever surpass the Intel DC P5800x in our true data transfer testing regimen is the Sabrent Rocket 4 Plus-G and the Samsung 990 Pro.

Looking at what the Sabrent Rocket 4 Plus-G did achieve, we reached transfer speed highs above 7GB/s and read and write IOPS over a million.  The Rocket 4 Plus-G also proved itself game worthy with one of the two top game loading times yet in our Final Fantasy XIV Game Loading Time benchmark.  As well as it did in in the 3DMark Storage Benchmark, we found the PCMark 10 Full and Quick Storage benchmarks to be a bit underwhelming.

Build quality and presentation for just about every Sabrent product is beyond reproach and the iridescent purple color of the exterior case, heatsink and branding sticker is no less than incredible.  We are left wondering just what second purpose this case may serve.  As we stated previously, Sabrent comes with a standard 2-year warranty that bumps up to 5-years with registration and SSD pricing…is as might be expected for one of the top SSDs on the market.  We were almost tempted to create an iridescent Purple Seal but we are sticking with the standard. Gold Seal and great job Sabrent!
