3D MARK STORAGE GAMING BENCHMARK
UL Solutions has created a new storage gaming benchmark that we will start to use as new SSDs come in. The 3DMark Storage Benchmark DLC extends 3DMark Advanced Edition with a dedicated component test for measuring the gaming performance of SSDs and other storage hardware. It supports all the latest storage technologies and tests practical, real-world gaming performance for activities such as loading games, saving progress, installing game files, and recording gameplay video streams.
The Kingston NV3 placed 18th in all SSDs tested in 3DMark to date.
REPORT ANALYSIS AND FINAL THOUGHTS
The Kingston NV3 Gen 4 SSD should be really appealing to those PC users looking to upgrade or move forward with the latest technology. It is PCIe 4.0 and fully backward compatible which means you can have tomorrows tech today. This SSD runs at speeds up to 6GB/s on a Gen 4 PC system and does not need a heatsink simply because of the combination of the low power SMI SM2268XT2 SSD controller combined with the latest KIOXIA BiCS6 3D NAND flash memory. Having said that, there is something that should be mentioned with respect to this SSDs build.
The Kingston NV8 has been set with a flexible BOM (Bill of Materials) which means that the controller and NAND is not guaranteed to be that which we reviewed today. The components within will be set at the lowest costs for materials by the company, however, Kingston guarantees that the NV3 will always meet advertised specifications, regardless of what controller or NAND is contained.
With respect to pricing, finding a 2TB just above $100 and a 4TB less than $300 has been a long time coming. It’s a huge benefit seeing this SSD, a 6GB/s SSD with 4TB of storage at that price. We might like to have seen the 3-year limited warranty at the standard 5-year bar but SSDs have one similarity to hard drives… they typically outlast their warranties by several years. True fact… I still have the original SanDisk and Samsung SSDs that were released way back in 2007 and they still work.
