Corsair MP700 Pro SE Gen5 4TB SSD Review – High Performance Meets High Capacity

3D MARK STORAGE GAMING BENCHMARK

UL Solutions has created a new storage gaming benchmark that we will start to use as new SSDs come in. The 3DMark Storage Benchmark DLC extends 3DMark Advanced Edition with a dedicated component test for measuring the gaming performance of SSDs and other storage hardware. It supports all the latest storage technologies and tests practical, real-world gaming performance for activities such as loading games, saving progress, installing game files, and recording gameplay video streams.

The Corsair MP700 Pro SE 4TB Gen 5 SSD placed better than the original Pro, however was still a bit behind the original MP700 review along with that of the MP700 Pro Elite.  With that in mind, it still placed well ahead of most SSDs tested to date and sits at No. 14.blank

REPORT ANALYSIS AND FINAL THOUGHTS

The Corsair MP700 Pro SE 4TB SSD is without a doubt one of the largest and fastest SSDs that has come across our Test Bench to date.  Kudos for making the point with higher capacity even though they could have enjoyed bragging rights alone by flipping the switch on the Phison E26 Max14um SSD controller and pushing 2400MT/s speeds to achieve 14GB/s data transfer speeds.  They did but it never stopped there.  By combining Micron’s 232-layer B58R 3D TLC NAND flash memory we were able to reach 1.7 million IOPS to achieve some of the best overall SSD performance to date.

This brings us to something we have been saying for over a decade though.  When buying a SSD, one needs to have at least an idea of their need to choose just the right storage solution for the task. The MP700 Pro SE is a high performing product which requires an effective cooling solution.  Will it work in a laptop?  Sure it will for limited jobs but don’t be setting that ultra portable on your lap anytime soon.  While this SSD will find its way into the hands of enthusiasts that just like the best of the best, it is meant for high end work.  This is ideal for those media professionals where SSD speed creates efficiency in a more complex workload.

The price is reflective of that.  It is an upper tier product with the best of the best components and, as we could only expect, it will cost a bit more.  Looking at Amazon right now though, we are kind of shocked at that $559 price with the fan cooler which blows away even the bare drive price by $65.  I’d be jumping on that real quick and, again, if this was the SSD that suited my needs.  Amazing build by Corsair and definitely worthy of Editor’s Choice!
