3D MARK STORAGE GAMING BENCHMARK
UL Solutions has created a new storage gaming benchmark that we will start to use as new SSDs come in. The 3DMark Storage Benchmark DLC extends 3DMark Advanced Edition with a dedicated component test for measuring the gaming performance of SSDs and other storage hardware. It supports all the latest storage technologies and tests practical, real-world gaming performance for activities such as loading games, saving progress, installing game files, and recording gameplay video streams.
A bit unusual perhaps, especially as the rest of our benchmarks were relatively consistent, is that the Corsair MP700 Pro Gen5 2TB SSD placed relatively low in this benchmark, 20th in fact. The chart below does not reflect the top results, but rather, results that sre in the same area as we received from this SSD.
REPORT ANALYSIS AND FINAL THOUGHTS
The Corsair MP700 Pro Gen5 2TB SSD completed our testing as every other Phison PS5026-E26 8-channel controlled Gen 5 SSD has. All have pushed the limits in performance and all run… a bit warm. Our MP700 Pro came in with data transfer speeds as high as 12.4GB/s and IOPS of 1.5 million for both read and write. This is an excellent drive for high end enthusiasts and media professionals who consistently work with their media and demanding software.
The MP700 Pro is available in capacities up to 4TB, comes with a 5-year limited warranty and pricing is where we might expect it. Make no mistake; there are many similar SSDs that are significantly cheaper as they are not DRAM based as the MP700 Pro is, and this fact will become the line between what enthusiasts or media professionals buy, and the typical PC user buys. The confusion with respect to performance will become very apparent when we see very high performing DRAM-less SSDs become available, as we reported on with our recent Corsair MP700 Elite SSD (review here). The MP700 Elite SSD was perhaps the best DRAM-less SSD tested to date. Having said that, I do ALOT of media manipulation with respect to videos and photography. I rely solely on the best SSDs for the job and the MP700 Pro fits right in for that task.
