Acer Predator GM7 1TB SSD Review – 232-Layer NAND Comes Alive Running at 2400MT/s in a DRAM-less Design

PCMARK 10 FULL SYSTEM STORAGE BENCHMARK

PCMark 10 Storage Benchmarks produce an overall score as a measure of drive performance. Comparing devices is as simple as comparing scores. The tests also measure and report the bandwidth and average access time performance for the drive. Each test uses traces recorded while performing real-world tasks such as booting Windows 10, starting applications such as Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, working with applications such as Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint, and copying several large files and many small files.

Both recent DRAMless SSD releases (Micron 2550 and Acer Predator) have placed very well in our PCMark 10 Full System test and one might think both were tested with our new 13th Gen Test Bench. The 2550 was actually tested in our former 12th Gen Test Bench; DRAMless SSDs appear to be stepping up in performance.

PCMARK 10 QUICK SYSTEM STORAGE BENCHMARK

The Quick System Drive Benchmark is a subset of the Full test and is more representative of typical daily usage to show what would be expected regarding hybrid SSD performance on a day-to-day basis.

The Acer Predator dropped just a bit in our PCMark 10 Quick Test so we extended this result to the ‘Top 11’ for this report. We thought this deserving as the Acer Predator had still placed ahead of 15 other SSDs.

TRUE DATA TESTING

For our True Data Testing, we simply loaded 15GB video, music, photo and OS files onto the Acer predator GM7 Gen 4 NVMe SSD and copied the data to a new folder on that same disk.

Never expected this whatsoever and I am still stunned! As much as I could see great results in the transfer of videos, photos and music, I never expected to see OS data transferred this fast by a DRAMless SSD. The Acer Predator literally blew through our true data testing regimen. Just as a bit of further idea where we have come in DRAMless SSDs, we posted DRAMless SSD results as well in the chart below.

PASSMARK PERFORMANCE TEST

We thought we might add a few extras in our report today, PassMark Performance Test DiskMark component being a nice addition. This software tests sequential reads and writes, along with IOPS and compares the result with millions of other SSDs worldwide. We might suggest being in the 99th percentile of all SSDs tested was a nice result.

Once again, the Acer Predator displayed amazing performance in our Passmark DiskMark testing, sitting at the 4th best result received to date.

FINAL FANTASY XIV: ENDWALKER BENCHMARK

The Final Fantasy Benchmark is a new tool in our arsenal and geared specifically to the gamer. The software is installed directly on the SSD and the SSD tested, providing and end result of FPS and scene transition times.

This result was run three times to make sure there wasn’t a glitch in the machine. Having a game load time of 5.82 seconds pretty much confirms that this SSD is a top choice for PS5 and gaming.

I don’t care how cheap or allegedly fast they are, I will never use another Biwin/HP collab SSD again.

Had 3 of the EX900’s burn up in less than 1-2 weeks each in a NUC sitting on desk in a climate controlled office doing… not much.

Replaced it with an Samsung and never had an issue with that NUC again.
