ANVIL STORAGE UTILITIES PROFESSIONAL
Anvil’s Storage Utilities (ASU) are the most complete test bed available for the solid state drive today. The benchmark displays test results for, not only throughput but also, IOPS and Disk Access Times. Not only does it have a preset SSD benchmark, but also, it has included such things as endurance testing and threaded I/O read, write and mixed tests, all of which are very simple to understand and use in our benchmark testing.
Once again, performance has dropped to below manufacturers specifications with Anvil, however, PNY did states that their results were based on sequential data samples AND NOT random samples as we see in Crystal DiskMark, AS SSD and Anvil. These are very good results considering.
QUICKBENCH 4.0
Hooking up the PNY Elite 480GB Portable SSD to our MBA, it was recognized immediately. We thought we might give it a quick run through with Quickbench 4.0 and, as you can see, specifications were above manufacturers specifications once again.
REPORT SUMMARY AND FINAL THOUGHTS
I am not much for comparisons but, if I put this up against the biggest and baddest on the market (Samsung T3), the only concern we have would be capacity. As for price, performance and physical size, this SSD is a runaway bride. It is small; very small. It has the top performance one might expect for a USB 3.0 device.
Lastly, finding this SSD at $129 right now at Amazon, that means that our price point is literally 26 cents a gigabyte. That is wicked…wicked being a huge compliment in this case. Not does this product have great capacity, it also has a small footprint, has great performance, a decent 3 year warranty, and is … well let’s just say it, “It’s cheap!” … as in price you pay my friends! Editor’s Choice!
