Samsung EVO Plus 128GB microSDXC Card Review – Performance and Speed

As much as so many like their iPhone, the glaring negative of that device is their proprietary integrated storage.  The inability to add a SDXC card to increase the memory of that phone, not only hinders use of the phone but also, the consumer ends up paying well over a 100x increase for the same storage they might get if they could add a flash card themselves.  Samsung and other Android smartphones don’t have this problem and, in fact, this remains to be a huge selling point that the iPhone loses out on.

Improvements in flash technology have helped things along by way of performance and today’s cards, such as the EVO Plus microSDXC for example, can meet UHS-1 (Ultra Hign Speed-1) standards by reaching bus speeds of 100MB/s.  This is a very good thing as the abiility to shoot 4K video and RAW images with ones smartphone will become the norm in the near future.

The newest Samsung EVO Plus microSDXC card is available in capacities of 32, 64, 128 and 256GB (in the near future)  and a SD card adapter is included for maximum compatibility with devices. It leverages the latest in flash technology and is Class 10 U3, the 128 and 256 capacities reaching speeds up to 100MB/s read and 90MB/s write.  The 64GB capacity still reaches 100MB/s read but itits write speeds drop a bt to 60MB/s.  The EVO Plus has a 10 year limited warranty and is waterproof, temperature proof, X-ray proof and magnetic proof, as is the standard with todays Samsung cards.

Initial MSRP pricing is $29.99 (32GB), $49.99 (64GB) and $99.99 (128GB) and we wanted to start right off wth a quick transfer test to see what we were dealing with.  Although just below listed spec, 79MB/s write performance is pretty good when transferring video files that are 100% incompressible.

Just got this; evo+[U3] 128gb. There’s SO many fakes goin around online/on ebay, they’re hard to avoid. Thought i got one of the better fakes (not the “made in China” w/black edges). Tested with sdtestw or watever – confirmed it was 128gb after like 3 or 4 hours ?.
THEN i was getting slow read/write speeds & thought maybe it was just an off brand- made to look like samsung. But i tried it on a newer laptop, and got 60&77MB/s sustained transfer speeds using the adapter to transfer an 800MB movie on & off. Says made in Philippines, but… It’s in the right direction. All text & colors look good. I guess it’s legit
