SMART Modular Technologies, a leading producer of memory and storage devices, is announcing availability of samples of their new 32GB DDR4 NVDIMM-N, representing the highest density DDR4 NVDIMM-N module available in the industry today. SMART will begin shipping samples at the end of August 2016. This new 32GB density module dramatically improves application performance, creating an ideal solution for storage environment and servers.
NVDIMMs operate by transforming main DRAM memory into persistent memory, which results in increased performance in servers by permitting transaction logs, big data and other latency and performance –critical data to be accessed at DRAM speeds, yet without the risk of data loss. Instead of reading and writing transaction logs or data to legacy storage media such as SATA SSDs, PCIe NVMe SSDs, or HDDS, data is read from and written to main memory without the risk of data loss due to any unanticipated power interruption. Server performance as regards lower latency, higher IOPS and endurance all are increased by integrating NVDIMMs into the storage architecture.
SMART’s DDR4 NVDIMMs are geared to supporting a broad range of industry standard and OEM server and storage platforms, including Dell, HP Enterprise, Intel®, Supermicro®, Lenovo™ and others. SMART is also providing support for DDR4 NVDIMM standardization work through JEDEC, and through SNIA’s NVDIMM SIG (Special Interest Group). Applications where responsiveness is crucial will see significant benefits from use of the persistent tier of byte-addressable memory provided by SMART’s NVDIMMs. The new high-density 32GB modules complement the other densities of 4GB, 8GB and 16GB currently offered, creating a host of option for customers.
SMART’s DDR4 NVDIMMs utilize proprietary SafeStor™ technology, and have a rich feature set, with a JEDEC-compliant command and control register interface that has been developed via numerous years of research and detailed work with customers. SMART’s NVDIMM modules also have integrated DRAM and Flash controllers that provide end-to-end data integrity protection, including internal CRC-32 and parity protection for FPGA SRAM. Backup power can be provided either by the host system via a JEDEC-standard 12V power rail or via a tethered Backup Power Module (BPM). SMART provides a variety of intelligent tethered BPMs to support integration of NVDIMMs.
SMART will be showcasing the performance advantages of their NVDIMMS this week at Flash Memory Summit 2016, from 8/9 through 8/11 at the Santa Clara Convention Center in Santa Clara, CA. SMART can be visited at booth #627.
