3DMARK STORAGE GAMING BENCHMARK
UL Solutions has created a new storage gaming benchmark that we will start to use as new SSDs come in. The 3DMark Storage Benchmark DLC extends 3DMark Advanced Edition with a dedicated component test for measuring the gaming performance of SSDs and other storage hardware. It supports all the latest storage technologies and tests practical, real-world gaming performance for activities such as loading games, saving progress, installing game files, and recording gameplay video streams.
The Yottamaster Y7000 Pro placed in the bottom third of 3DMark Storage Benchmark which is what might be expected as this benchmark is the trues real world type test available.
REPORT ANALYSIS AND FINAL THOUGHTS
Let’s start with the bad and get to the good, shall we? First off, we understand that the Yottamaster Y7000 Pro is the first official SSD release from Yottamaster but it has been available for at least 8 months now. There should be absolutely no reason to receive a package with incomplete contents as we did. We were missing a thermal pad which could easily be overlooked, but not so with the heatsink cover itself. Next up, there should be a complete set of specifications somewhere for each capacity, and not just the 2TB capacity which is shown when selecting all capacities on their website. This left us questioning both TBW for each capacity, as well as performance at lower capacities.
Lastly, we find it somewhat unusual that the Y7000 Pro that we received seems to be different than the pile of YouTube reviewers that nervously peeled back the branding sticker to show a SSD composition IDENTICAL to the Acer FA200 we had reviewed, rather than the actual Y7000 Pro we were reviewing. Yottamaster has returned correspondence confirming the memory was still YMTC QLC 3D 232-later NND and that PCB changes were to ‘optimize performance and reliability’.
Now to the good. The Yottamaster Y7000 Pro Gen4 SSD Is real a decent performing SSD. It reached highs of 7.1GB/s read and 6.2GB/s write data tranfer speeds with a high of over 1 million IOPS read. Although it showed itself to be a mid-range performer throughout our true testing, it is important to note that there were no exceptions. It’s performance was consistent throughout all of our testing. We cannot speak to actual warranty service with Yottamaster, although we always recommend Amazon simply because of their warranty and return policy, but this SSD does come with a 5-year warranty.
Now pricing… we just checked Amazon and saw that they just tacked on a $30 off coupon to the 4TB price of $239.99. Try to find me a 4TB Gen4 SSD for $209.99 anywhere! That price is dynamite. Mark my words. Companies such Yottamaster, BIWIN and others moving into the North American Market will pushed down overall SSD pricing. There is more than $100 difference between the Samsung 990 Pro 4TB SSD and the Yottamaster Y9000 Pro on Amazon right now, both with Gen4 speeds, a 5-year warranty and that great high capacity. Knowing EXACTLY what you need your SSD for can save you a boot load of cash.
