KIOXIA has introduces two key products in the flash world in the past few weeks, the EM6 NVMe-oF SSD for enterprise and the BG5 update for PCIe 4.0 which will be available to typical PC users as a client addition to pre-built PC systems.
EM6 NVMe-oF ENTERPRISE SSD
To start things along, the EM6 is an enterprise NVMe-oF SSD available in capacities of 3840TB or 7680TB, and come in a 2.5″ 15mm Z-height form factor. Thios SSD uses the Marvell 88SN2400 NVMe-oF SSD converter controller that converts a normal SSD into a dual-port 25Gb NVMe-oF SSD.
The EM6 exposes the entire SSD bandwidth to the network and is an ideal solution for AI, machine learning, HPC, and storage expansion because of the ability to scale maximum performance of SSDs. KIOXIA is hapopy to announce that the EM6 has successfully completed GPUDirect Storage (GDS) certification testing and this SSD has 1DWPD endurance.
It has single/dual 25Gb Ethernet and RoCEv2 network compatibility and is fully sompliant with NVMe-oF 1.1 and NVMe 1.4 specifications. The EM6 is available through Ingrasys, a subsidiary of Foxconn, in the ES2000 EBOF platform.
BG5 PCIE 4.0 SSDS
Next up, the KIOXIA BG5 is a DRAM-less PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD available in capacities of 256GB, 512GB and 1TB. It is capable of speeds up to 3.5GB/s read and 2.9GB/s write with up to 500K IOPS read and 450K IOPS write. The BG5 supports TCG Pyrite and Opal standards, complies with the NVMe 1.4 protocol, and has end-to-end data protection.
The BG5 is built with KIOXIA’s fifth generation of BiCS flash 3D NAND and, although it is available in the 2280 (80mm) form factor, its 2230 (30mm) form factor guarantees inclusion in commercial and consumer notebooks and desktops with the smallest footprint available today. “Market adoption of DRAM-less SSDs is increasing steadily, thanks to HMB’s ability to reduce the overall bill of materials without degrading the data read/write performance of the SSD,” noted Neville Ichhaporia, vice president, SSD marketing and product management, KIOXIA America, Inc. “The fact that KIOXIA realized PCIe 4.0 performance with a DRAM-less architecture is a win for mainstream client applications.”
