Toshiba Memory Corporation is announcing its latest addition to its client SSD lineup with the XG5-P 2TB NVMe model. This premium addition to the XG5 series features improved performance as well as doubling the maximum capacity to 2TB. The XG5-P series of SSDs will also be offered in self-encrypting drive (SED) models that support TCG Opal Version 2.01, making it attractive for a wide range of usage scenarios, including gaming PCS, workstations and read-intensive enterprise applications.
Toshiba’s XG5-P series utilizes the PCIe Gen3 x 4-lane and NVMe Revision 1.2.1 interface, providing sequential read speeds of up to 3000MB/s and sequential write speeds of up to 2200MB/s. They are rated for random read speeds of up to 320,000 IOPS and random write speeds of up to 265,000 IOPS. This represents a 55% improvement in read/write full access range performance over the standard XG5 series. Even with the improved performance, power consumption is maintained at less than 60mW during drive operation.
The new XG5-P is based on the standard M.2 2280 form factor, and is to be offered in both 1TB and 2TB models. Featuring 64-layer 3D BiCS FLASH™ 1TB package developed in-house by Toshiba, the 2TB version provides twice the maximum storage capacity of the standard XG5 series on the same 2.23mm, light-weight, single-sided M.2 2280 module form factor. Sticking with a single form factor for all capacities of both the XG5 and XG5-P series enables simplified design platforms for OEMs that require flexible storage options.
Toshiba is providing samples to select OEM customers beginning today, and plans to gradually increase shipments during Q1 of calendar year 2018.
