VisionTek Products LLC, U.S.-based producer of award-winning, high-performance accessories and upgrades for PCs and Macs, is announcing the addition of three new capacities to its lineup of VisionTek USB 3.0 Pocket SSDs in thumb drive-sized form factor. The three new capacity offerings are 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB, all utilizing high-endurance MLC NAND.
VisionTek’s USB 3.0 Pocket SSD is similar in size to a standard USB thumb drive, but the aircraft-grade aluminum housing encases a fully functional Solid State Drive (SSD). The three new capacities deliver sequential read speeds of (up to) 450MB/s, and sequential write speeds of (up to) 155MB/s (128GB – 150MB/s). Random 4K read speeds for all three capacities are stated as (up to) 25,000 IOPS, with random 4K write speeds of (up to) 27,000 IOPS. This represents transfer speeds that are up to 20 X faster than a standard USB 2.0 flash drive.
According to Mark Bilson, Executive Vice President of VisionTek, “Launching the VisionTek USB 3.0 Pocket SSD in full-capacity versions was a high priority for us. We opted to expand the line fully, offering 128GB and 256GB, and adding a 512GB version as well, allowing for customers who have larger storage capacity needs to take full advantage of this fantastic, portable form factor.”
VisionTek’s USB 3.0 Pocket SSD can be plugged into any computer’s USB 3.0 port to enable the saving or sharing of work files, images, movies, music, and more. The storage capacity, reliability and speed of the VisionTek USB 3.0 Pocket SSD is competitive with internal SSDs, bests standard USB flash drive speeds, and leaves the read/writes speeds of external hard disk drives (HDDs) in the dust.
The VisionTek USB 3.0 Pocket SSDs are compatible with Windows XP and higher operating systems, Mac OS X 10.4 and higher, as well as Linux. They are backed by a two-year limited warranty. Suggested retail pricing is $89.99 for the 128GB version, $149.99 for the 256GB, and $279.99 for the 512GB unit. All three should be available for purchase on Amazon in the near future.

Can’t understand why not release this on USB 3.1… lack of vision…
Hi,
There’s few issues with USB 3.1 versions.
1) They won’t be any faster as right now all the controllers are mostly still SATA
based, so you are limited to 450ish MB/s.
2) Any PCIe based drives will likely require additional power and its very
difficult to bridge a pcie drive to a usb port (lots of power remapping and
controllers required)
3)There still aren’t any IC available for the USB 3.1 to SATA bridges. We hope these become available in early 2016, with 1-2 months of development time required after that.
We are actively looking at the possibility of expanding the Pocket SSD lineup, and as technologies improve, we will add more versions.
Thanks for posting, Rick!
Always good to see the manufacturer respond directly.
