We have worked behind the scenes with Viking Technology for several years now and will be the first to say that they are a company that always seems to be creating great tech but gaining little recognition in comparison to the big names. This year at FMS is different as they display what we believe to be the worlds first 4TB SSD as shown here:
The Viking Element is a 12Gb/s SAS SSD and capable of incredible performance of 2GB/s read and write with up to 400,000 IOPS. What is unusual is that these SSDs are available in 2.5″ and 1.8″ form factors bringing us the first opportunity ever to even consider a 4TB SSD in a typical notebook size SSD.
Also on display was there new SASDimm configurations which hold the same performance specs as the Element. What’s really incredible with the SASDimm is that the 2TB version measures 133x30mm while the 4TB version measures 133x50mm. This just has to be the smallest form factor for a 2 or 4TB capacity on the planet.
So does this mean it will be available (read affordable) for consumers in about 5 or 6 years?
