Transcend Information, Inc., a leading producer of multimedia and storage devices, is announcing the launch of the StoreJet for Mac SJM500 portable SSD that features both a Thunderbolt connection and a USB 3.0 connection. The SJM500 is natively formatted in HFS+ and provides full support for Apple’s Time Machine backup software, giving users “plug and play” backup capabilities.
Advanced Thunderbolt technology provides for two channels on the same connector, allowing data to be transmitted and received at the same time, and theoretical transfer rates of up to 10Gb/s (depending on system configuration). The SJM500 also features a USB 3.0 port with UASP support, providing 10 X the bandwidth of a USB 2.0 connection. If the SJM500 is utilized in a Thunderbolt “daisy chain” configuration, it must be the last device in the chain, as it does not have a Thunderbolt pass-through port.

Transcend’s SJM500 measures 121.2mm X 75.2mm X 13.5mm, and weighs 136 grams (4.8 oz.). The SJM500 offers sequential read speeds of up to 440MB/s (sequential write speeds and random 4K read and write speeds are not specified). The SJM500’s sturdy metallic design creates a sleek and elegant companion look for your Mac device.
The SJM500 can also be used with Windows-based systems, which requires reformatting the drive to FAT32, exFAT, or NTFS file systems. The SJM500 is being offered in capacities of 256GB, 512GB and 1TB. Transcend is backing the SJM500 with a three year warranty.
For added value, the SJM500 includes a free download of the exclusive Transcend Elite data management tools that help you manage data and increase productivity. When paired with Elite, your Transcend SJM500 makes it easy to keep important files organized, protected and up-to-date.
The SJM500 package includes everything you need – along with the drive are a Thunderbolt cable, a USB 3.0 cable, a travel pouch, a quick-start guide and the warranty card. The 256GB version has an MSRP of $289.99 (pricing for the larger capacities has not yet been specified).
