Toshiba’s OCZ division is announcing the launch of a new series of TLC NAND-based SATA solid-state drives (SSD) for the value-oriented user, dubbed as the TL100 series. The TL100 series is designed as an entry-level hard disk drive (HDD) upgrade option that provides the performance and benefits of SSD technology, yet at a very enticing price point.
As a simple and cost-effective upgrade for mobile and/or desktop systems, the TL100 series provides much improved system responsiveness and performance versus a traditional HDD for home/office computing. Utilizing Toshiba TLC NAND flash memory, the TL100 series provides quality and reliability at an affordable price.
According to Alex Mei, VP of Marketing, Consumer SSDs & Storage Outbound Marketing at Toshiba, “The Toshiba OCZ TL100 SATA SSD series demonstrates that “value” doesn’t mean end users need to sacrifice performance or quality. As an affordable upgrade option for home and office users, the TL100 series makes SSD performance and responsiveness more accessible to a wider audience.”
The OCZ TL100 SATA SSD series is being offered in capacity points of 120GB and 240GB. Both capacities pair the Toshiba TLC NAND with a Toshiba SSD controller to attain sequential read speeds of up to 550 MB/s, and sequential write speeds of up to 530 MB/s. Random 4K read speeds are stated as up to 85,000 IOPS, with random 4K write speeds stated as up to 80,000 IOPS.
Power consumption is stated as up to 1.6W active, and 440mW at idle, and DevSleep (device sleep) mode is also supported, providing extended battery life for mobile computing devices. Toshiba/OCZ is backing the new TL100 series with a 3-year Advanced Warranty Program, which provides reliable customer service while eliminating much of the typical frustration involved in dealing with the need for a warranty claim or support request.
