During our initial rounds of the various displays at FMS this afternoon, we couldn’t help but notice Toshiba’s display of their new TLC SSD entry. Given the product name of the SG4, this SSD is A19 Toggle Mode NAND flash memory based and is quoted as being a read performance intensive SSD.
Available in the 2.5″, mSATA and M.2 form factors, the SG3 will be available in capacities of up to 1TB, making this the second announcement we have seen of a 1TB M.2 SSD at FMS. The SG4 is also described as a low power solution that is capable of DEVSLP, and also has enterprise characteristics such as thermal throttling to reduce heat and power usage. Unfortunately there were no performance specifications available for print at this time.
As much as we are aware that FMS is not a consumer event, and also that Toshiba described the SG4 as being enterprise class for data integrity, we can’t help but think this may also hit retail packaging at a great price soon enough. Stay tuned as we get to some more news from FMS and Toshiba!
