The Ultimate Guide To SSD Benchmark Software

HDTUNE PRO VER. 4.60 EXTRAS

Although we rarely use HDTune Pro as a confirmation of our testing, there are a few attributes that stand out with this software.  The first is the users visible confirmation that we are reaching SATA 3 speeds consistently as can be seen with the last two charts.

The other characteristic won’t be found in any user manual.  It only became apparent through a great deal of testing  and pertains to the performance line as seen in the first benchmark.  This line (as seen here) is indicative of a system that is comfortable with the SSD.  The line is not always the same and we have seen some SSDs that resemble a heartbeat and, in earlier generation testing, this line was never this smooth.

It doesn’t necessarily mean that concern should be pointed at the SSD as responsibility may be attributed to the users OS installation and ‘fine tuning’ rather than the hardware itself.  We do know that a solid system will have a result similar to the result above; steady and smooth.

HDTACH 3.0.4.0
HDTach is another program that goes back some years but is free and certainly may be used in SSD Testing.  This example is brought forward from our OCZ Vertex 3 SSD Review which may be a great indication of the last time we used it (2011):

QUICKBENCH V.4.0

QuickBench is another premium program that, like ATTO, uses compressible data only in its testing.  It may be used for PC or Mac SSD testing.  In this example, we are demonstrating the OSX version in our review of the Samsung Portable T1 1TB SSD:

AIDA64 EXTREME

AIDA64 Extreme is a 30 day time limited trial, after which it must be purchased.  It encompass the full range of PC testing, but specific to SSDs, has both a read and write test suite.  This example displays the result of our Intel 750 SSD:

Nice article but that seems to be the old version of the ATTO Disk Benchmark. Latest version is up to 3.05. https://www.attotech.com/disk-benchmark/

Very informative. Does the motherboard or CPU or memory affect the SSD bencmark at all?

It depends on the task at hand and taking a look at different reviews for a specific SSD is a great example. Although one might find minor deviations from board to board or CPU to CPU, the results are, for the most part consistent. It would be very rare for a board to be introduced that stands out from all others with respect to SSD performance.
