Seagate Technology plc, a world-leading producer of data storage devices, is announcing a first-of-its-kind high-capacity M.2 solid state drive (SSD) that enables data centers to more easily accommodate the exponential growth of data requiring storage, yet still achieving a high degree of computing power and performance. The 2TB version of Seagate’s Nytro® XM1440 M.2 non-volatile memory express (NVMe) SSD is the highest-capacity enterprise-class M.2 NVMe SSD available today, making it ideal for demanding enterprise usage applications that benefit from fast data access, fast processing, and higher capacity.
The 2TB Nytro XM1440 M.2 NVMe SSD, the latest addition to the Seagate Nytro SSD lineup, is geared toward accelerating enterprise data access, with twice the storage density of previous M.2 NVMe products. The 2TB Nytro XM1440 M.2 NVMe SSD is optimized for read-intensive and mixed workloads, and its high capacity and small form factor are an excellent fit for today’s enterprise data center and cloud environments, where speed and processing power are as increasingly important as a small footprint. Seagate’s latest M.2 NVMe offering helps fulfill the needs of demanding enterprise usage scenarios that include online transaction processing (OLP), big data analytics and high-performance computing. Assistance with managing storage growth with deduplication and compression allows data centers to more easily create an increased number of virtual machines instantly without the need to add additional servers – this enables today’s data centers to more easily manage ever-expanding storage growth requirements.
According to Brett Pemble, general manager and vice president of SSD products at Seagate, “Data and time are money, and nowhere is this more apparent than in today’s enterprises, which are grappling with how to accommodate ever-increasing amounts of data without losing the ability to quickly access and process it to continue deriving value. This latest version of the Nytro XM1440 M.2 NVMe SSD is the first of its kind and pushes the boundaries for enterprises, so they don’t have to sacrifice speed for access and availability. They can continue to scale operations in an efficient manner and still get the most value from their data, but without the extra overhead.”
With active power consumption of just 7 watts, which is nearly half that of similar performing drives available today, Seagate’s 2TB Nytro XM1440 M.2 NVMe SSD is able to attain performance levels as high as 30,000 IOPS per watt, which enables very high levels of computing in the smallest power envelope. Also, this SSD’s flexible form factor allows enterprises to easily bring PCIe-/NMVe-level performance to their data centers without the need to overhaul their entire infrastructure and storage architecture.
Seagate’s 2TB Nytro XM1440 M.2 NVMe SSD features end-to-end data protection, including low-density parity-check error correction and RAISE™ technology, which provides RAID-like data protection and recovery from potentially catastrophic flash memory failures. It also features a power loss data protection circuit to help prevent data loss in the event of an unanticipated power interruption.
Seagate anticipates November 2016 availability for the 2TB Nytro XM1440 M.2 NVMe SSD through channel partners. And for data centers that are not yet prepared to utilize an M.2 interface storage device, Seagate offers the same solution as an add-in card in the new Nytro XP7102 PCIe NVMe SSD, which is available through channel partners now.
The specification table is very small, hard to see anything 😀
But the 2TB SDD sounds great
