SanDisk Corporation, a world-leading producer of flash storage devices, is announcing its new CloudSpeed Eco GenII SATA SSD, designed specifically for cloud service providers, in capacities up to 2TB. Utilizing 15nm NAND flash memory, SanDisk’s new CloudSpeed Eco GenII SSD provides more storage density with 3X the streaming bandwidth as compared to hard disk drives (HDDs). Geared as a drop-in replacement for HDDs, the CloudSpeed Eco GenII SSD allows datacenters to reduce their cost-per-square-foot for hyperscale applications, including media streaming, content repositories, and analytics.
Industry analyst Gartner predicts that the number of connected “things” is set to explode, reaching 25 billion “things” by the year 2020. Cloud Data Services, including Big Data Analytics, SaaS, IaaS and PaaS environments are pushing datacenters to transform rapidly and radically. Online commerce, including micropayments and similar applications are quite read-intensive, requiring scalable storage capacity with a high rate of data throughput.
According to John Scaramuzzo, SanDisk’s senior vice president and general manager for Enterprise Storage Solutions, “Digital business transformation has put tremendous pressure on cloud service providers to deliver massive capacity and performance with increasing cost efficiency. As a trusted provider of flash-based solutions for three of the largest cloud service providers, SanDisk understands hyperscale application demands. We’ve designed CloudSpeed Eco GenII to deliver better cloud-scale economics with specific features so that cloud service providers can deliver superior customer experiences.”
Cloud service providers have historically utilized HDDs and their large pools of low-cost capacity for their data storage needs. As datasets continue their growth march, and real-time access to information becomes increasingly critical, cloud service providers find that HDD-based storage cannot keep pace with the ever-increasing demand without making datacenters bigger and bigger. When decision makers look at the cloud economics of utilizing flash-based storage, and its price-to-performance density, endurance, and heat/power/cooling costs, many of them are looking to SanDisk.
SanDisk’s CloudSpeed Eco GenII SSDs include SanDisk’s Guardian Technology Platform, a suite of powerful tools for error detection and correction, full data path protection, and data fail recovery. The CloudSpeed Eco GenII SSD is backed by a five-year limited warranty.
The CloudSpeed Eco GenII 2TB is currently sampling with select hyperscale customers, and will be available through SanDisk ODMs and select Enterprise Channel Partners later in 2015. You can view he CloudSpeed Eco GenII SSD product page here.
