Plextor Introduces mSATA, NGFF, TLC and Power Protection SSDs at CES Las Vegas 2013

Plextor set out to confirm their commitment to quality and innovation at CES Las Vegas 2013 this week, and that they did. Unlike other manufacturers who may select controllers and memory dependent on market pricing and availability, Plextor made it clear that their commitment was to Marvell for SSD controllers and Toshiba for their premium Toggle Mode NAND flash memory.

Add to this the fact that each and every Plextor SSD undergoes extensive aging testing to verify drive endurance, True Speed Technology ensures almost identical performance whether the drive is a new drive or well used, and that extensive testing ensured a drive MTBF of 2.4 million hours and Plextor is definitely putting their best foot forward.

M5 PRO XTREME

Plextor M5P Extreme

Plextor’s M5 Pro Xtreme speaks to performance of up to 540MB/s read and 470MB/s write with 100,000 IOPS read and 88,000 IOPS write.  It is available in capacities of 128, 256 and 512GB, uses a Marvell 88SS9187 controller, Toshiba Toggle Mode NAND flash memory and has a five year warranty.

M5M MSATA

The M5M uses the Marvell 88SS9187 controller, Toshiba memory and Micron DDR3 DRAM cache.

NGFF (NEXT GENERATION FORM FACTOR)

Plextor had NGFF samples on display, a new form factor which will become the industry standard and start to be seen later in the year. The NGFF form factor allows for a wider range of implementation in a smaller footprint and even allows the possibility of a two SSD configuration within a single NGFF PCB.

2.5″ SATA TLC

Plextor TLC

It was only a matter of time before adoption of TLC memory became commonplace in the SSD arena as it provides a more value driven alternative to the consumer.  The Plextor TLC SSD is expected to release later this year and uses the Marvell 88SS9189 controller with Toshiba TLC NAND flash memory.  Performance specifications describe up to 540MB/s read and 465MB/s write with 80,000 read IOPS at 4k aligned random disk access. This SSD will be available in capacities of 128, 256 and 512GB.

2.5″ SATA MLC POWER PROTECTION
