Plextor, a leading producer of digital storage devices, is announcing the launch of its new M6M mSATA solid-state drive (SSD), which is optimized to bring real-world high-performance to compact devices such as tablets, laptops, notebooks and Ultrabooks. Installing an M6M into such a mobile device will result in maximized system responsiveness and improved battery life.
The M6M is capable of desktop-like performance — sequential reads speeds of up to 520 MB/s and sequential write speeds of up to 440 MB/s. Random 4K read speeds are stated as up to an impressive 94,000 IOPS and random 4K write speeds of up to 80,000 IOPS — even faster than its predecessors.
According to Yaping Zheng, Product Manager at Plextor, “The M6M is all about real-world performance. We’ve optimized this compact SSD to deliver the best possible computing experience. We’ve used the latest generation of components, then included a new version of True Speed for even smoother long-term operation, and focused on increasing the random speeds to give the fastest everyday operating performance.”
Plextor’s new M6M features the latest server-grade Marvell 88SS9188 controller, Toshiba Toggle NAND memory, and customized firmware provided by Plextor’s own in-house elite engineering team. Also included is Plextor’s proprietary True Protect technology, supporting advanced data integrity and safety, and 256-bit AES full disk encryption.
The M6M is also highly energy efficient, supporting DEVSLP (device sleep) mode — when the host system is sleeping power consumption is reduced to a mere 2 mW to dramatically improve battery life, and can wake up from sleep mode in only 100 ms. Every Plextor SSD is subjected to rigorous testing standards that simulate real-world usage and extended burn-in periods to ensure reliability. Plextor backs the M6M with a three-year warranty.
The Plextor M6M is offered in capacities of 128GB, 256GB, and even 512GB — allowing mobile device users to work with and store large files such as videos, audio files and high-resolution images. The 128GB and 256GB versions will be available this month, with the 512GB capacity available in Q2 2014.
