If you could call it controller wars, it certainly seems to be shaping up that way with yet another company introducing a controller in excess of that 1GB/s performance ‘line in the sand’. At FMS 2013 this morning, Phison displayed their new PS5006 PCIe controller and it is capable of an amazing 1.5GB/s read and 1.3GB/s write performance.
The PS5006 is an eight channel controller, requires a PCIe 2×4 interface, has optional AES encryption, and is compatible with 1x, 1y, as well as new TLC memory designs. Eight channels also means that this SSD is capable of capacities up to 2TB.
Phison also had a new TLC SSD on display set up with their new PS3110 controller, capable of 540MB/s read and 450MB/s write performance with optional AES encryption and, again, this is an eight channel package capable of supporting capacities up to 2TB.
When will see this in products? I hope it’s for consumers too.
when manufacturers buy the controller…. This could be a great purchase for Toshiba who still havent a proprietary controller as of yet for consumer products.
