Patriot, a top producer of computing memory, SSDs, USB flash drives and mobile accessories, is announcing the launch of their latest additions to their Ignite solid-state drive (SSD) lineup, now available in the M.2 form factor. The compact M.2 form factor is ideal for use in portable computing devices, including notebooks, ultrabooks, and ultra-compact PCs, where they can deliver greatly reduced boot-up times, as well as much more instantaneous access to installed programs and data.
For those with such mobile computing devices, the M.2 Ignite SSDs provide the ultimate in upgrade solutions, packing all of the enhanced performance that an SSD delivers, while its caseless design takes up a space only 22mm wide X 80mm long X 3.8mm thick. The Ignite M.2 SSDs utilize a Phison PS3110-S10 NAND controller paired with select MLC NAND to achieve sequential read speeds of (up to) 560MB/s, and sequential write speeds of (up to) 320MB/s. The Ignite M.2 SSDs also are stated as attaining random 4K read speeds of (up to) 90,000 IOPS, and random 4K write speeds of (up to) 70,000 IOPS.
According to Les Henry, VP of Engineering for Patriot, “We are happy to announce the Ignite M.2 addition to our family of SSD products. With the Ignite M.2, Patriot now offers a full range of SSDs, from 2.5” SATA3, to mSATA and now M.2. The Ignite M.2 drives are the perfect storage solution for those looking to build/upgrade their small form factor PCs.”
To ensure performance and consistency over the drive’s lifespan, Patriot also includes advanced features in the Ignite M.2 series, such as advanced wear-leveling, advanced Garbage collection, smartECC (error correction code), Smart Refresh, and end-to-end date protection (ETEP). The Ignite M.2 SSDs support operating systems such as Windows 7, 8, 8.1 and Vista; as well as Linux. Patriot is backing the Ignite M.2 SSDs with a three-year warranty.
Patriot states that the Ignite M.2 series of SSDs should be available at the end of May from leading retailers and e-tailers, such as Fry’s Electronics, Amazon and Newegg. MSRP of the 240GB Ignite M.2 is set at $109.99, with the 480GB MSRP set at $209.99. You can view the product page for the Ignite M.2 240GB SSD here, and the Ignite M.2 480GB SSD here.
