OCZ Upgrades the Vertex 3 To 20nm MLC Synchronous NAND

OCZ Technology Group, Inc. is announcing a new 20nm NAND flash version of its award-winning Vertex 3 series of SSDs.  This new Vertex “3.20” is a SATA III (6 GB/s) multi-level cell (MLC) drive in the now standard 2.5″ form factor.  The Vertex 3 series will now be built around smaller, state-of-the-art NAND flash process geometry at 20nm.

Utilizing the well-proven LSI SandForce SF-2200 processor, the Vertex 3.20 series of SSDs deliver the outstanding performance of synchronous 20nm NAND flash, supporting reads of up to 550 MB/s and writes of up to 520 MB/s.  Random read performance is stated at up to 35,000 IOPs, and random writes of up to 65,000 IOPs.  The 3.20 is also optimized for endurance, reliability, and low power consumption.

According to Daryl Lang, Senior Vice President of Product Management, “OCZ is always looking for ways to deliver superior solid state drive storage performance and features, as well as making the technology more accessible to the complete range of customers.  The Vertex 3 has been a popular SSD series among consumers and implementing the newer, smaller process geometry will not only extend its life, but enables mainstream users with an excellent computing experience at a competitive price point.”

The Vertex 3.20 SSD will be available in 120 GB and 240 GB storage capacities initially, with a 480 GB version to follow at a later date.  OCZ’s press release regarding the Vertex 3.20 can be viewed in its entirety here; while the product page itself is available here.
