MyDigitalSSD is announcing their new Super Cache 2 (SC2) mSATA 6 Gb/s SSD, a lower cost solution where PC users are able to achieve system performance comparable to that of an SSD, without giving up the larger capacity of an HDD. Current notebook and desktop motherboards are increasingly being outfitted with an extra mSATA slot, allowing the SC2 to be used in conjunction with a conventional spinning platter hard drive to create a “hybrid” drive.
The Super Cache 2 features the PHISON S9 (PS3109) model NAND controller, which is configured for high queue depths and SATAIII (6 Gb/s) read and write speeds. The PHISON S9 is also configured with the 24GB-128GB range of the SC2 models as its “sweet spot” of performance. Toshiba 19nm synchronous MLC NAND Flash is utilized to attain sequential transfer speeds of up to 550 MB/s.
Each MyDigitalSSD Super Cache 2 mSATA SSD also is supplied with a free license code for FNet HybriDisk caching software to facilitate creation of your own high-performance hybrid drive. As with other similar caching software, lesser-used programs and files will continue to reside on the HDD, while “hot” frequently accessed files and programs (including boot files) will reside on the SSD for much quicker access. Boot times are reduced by up to 60%. The FNet HybriDisk software continuously monitors usage, and adjusts data location accordingly for optimum performance.
NOTE: The MyDigitalSSD Super Cache 2 is compatible with other caching software; however the FNet HybriDisk software is NOT compatible with other caching SSDs. The SC2 can also be used as a boot/system drive by itself.
The SC2 supports S.M.A.R.T. features, NCQ commands and the TRIM command. It offers sudden power-off recovery without loss of data. The maximum read speeds are stated as 550 MB/s, and the maximum writes speeds are stated as 430 MB/s. Mean time between failures (MTBF) is indicated as 2,000,000 hours.
Pricing for the Super Cache 2 mSATA SSD is noted as $64.99 (USD) for the 24GB version, $74.99 for the 32Gb version, $89.99 for the 64GB model, and $129.99 for the 128GB unit.
