Microsemi, has announced today that they are now offering a new PCIe Gen3 Switch, its Switchtec PFX PCIe switch. The Switchtec PFX PCIe switch provides for the the industry’s highest density and lowest power for data center, defense, communications, and industrial applications.
These new switches enable PCIe solutions in a variety of systems from general purpose applications requiring low power and high-reliability PCIe switching to scalable JBOFs (just a bunch of flash). Some of the most often common applications for these switches are, defense and industrial servers, video production and broadcasting equipment, data center equipment, access networks workstations, test equipment, cellular infrastructure, metro networks, and core networking.
“Our Switchtec PFX PCIe switches provide industry-leading capabilities required for high performance data center solutions, while leveraging these same features for general purpose PCIe switching applications—a market that can benefit greatly from these enhancements,” said Derek Dicker, vice president and business unit manager, performance storage, at Microsemi. “As we work with top tier customers in the ever-growing data center market, we will continue to utilize our expertise to deliver unique performance features and innovative solutions that align with their specific needs.”
The Switchtec PFX family provides for
- Switches from 24 lanes to 96 lanes
- Flexible port bifurcation – from x2 to x16 lanes per port
- Up to 48 ports and 48 NTBs
- Up to 24 switch partitions
- Advanced error containment and surprise-plug and unplug support to prevent system crashes
- Advanced debug and diagnostic features to identify, diagnose and fix problems
- SRIS for cabled PCIe and lower cost system designs
In IDC’s report, “Worldwide Solid State Drive Forecast, 2015-2019,” PCIe SSDs are becoming the norm and will take up nearly 40% of revenue by 2019. With 21% of their $1.25 billion revenue coming from datacenter sales and such a high predicted adoption rate of PCIe devices, it is no wonder Microsemi continues to be an innovator in this industry in supplying the most advanced PCIe switches out.
Microsemi is now sampling the Switchtec PFX fanout switch and they will go into full production later this year. Visit www.microsemi.com or contact sales.support@microsemi.com for more information.
Furthermore, there will be a product demonstration during Flash Memory Summit in Santa Clara Convention Center in Santa Clara, California, showcasing the new device. You can stop by and visit at booth #213 from Aug. 9-11.
