KIOXIA is announcing their newest significant technological development for cloud data center applications. The new XD6 Series further expands KIOXIA’s broad portfolio of client, date center and enterprise SSDs. The E1.S form factor XD6 SSDs are the first Enterprise and Datacenter SSD Form Factor (EDSFF) SSDs that target the specific requirements of hyperscale applications, and include the power, performance and thermal requirements of the Open Compute Platform (OCP) NVMe Cloud SSD Specification.
KIOXIA’s EDSFF E1.x SSDs are designed to maximize system density, simplicity and efficiency, and as such represent the future of flash storage for cloud and hyperscale datacenter servers. The EDSFF consortium definition leverages the OCP NVMe Cloud SSD Specification to create a flexible and efficient small form factor E1.S, which replaces the M.2 form factor. E1.S delivers greater density, performance, reliability and thermal management, as well as being hot-pluggable for superior serviceability.
KIOXIA’s new XD6 Series is compliant with both the PCIe 4.0 and NVMe 1.3c specifications, and will be available in E1.S 9.5mm, 15mm and 25mm form factors. The XD6 Series is designed for consistent performance, latency and reliability for 24×7 cloud data centers, and provides performance increases of 2x to 4x as compared to PCIe 3.0 SSDs. Key features are as follows:
-
Sequential read and write performance up to 6500MB/s, and 2400MB/s, respectively
-
15W power consumption
-
Security options: non-SED and TGC-Opal
-
Full end-to-end data path protection
-
Power loss protection
-
Expanded drive health information
-
Excellent Quality of Service
-
New KIOXIA-developed, hyperscale-optimized controller
According to Neville Ichhaporia, KIOXIA’s senior director of marketing and product development for Data Center and Client SSD division, “Hyperscale data centers are the heart of the internet, and th OCP platform will power future generations with SSDs optimized for server platforms. KIOXIA is proud to work with industry leaders on innovative storage solutions, such as our XD6 Series data center NVMe SSDs, to power their critical applications.”
KIOXIA is an active and contributing member for industry development of EDSFF E1.S/L and E3.S/L solutions, and continues to collaborate with leading storage and server system developers to help achieve the full power of flash memory, PCIe, and NVMe. The XD6 drives are now sampling with select customers. For more information, pleas visit www.KIOXIA.com.
