Intel this morning announced their new 525 Series SATA 3 mSATA SSD family making available more capacities than we think we have ever seen from any other similar release.
The new Intel Series 525 mSATA SSD will be available in capacities of 30, 60, 90, 120, 180 and 240GB and performance is listed as 550MB/s read, 520MB/s write and 80,000 IOPS at low 4k aligned random write disk access.
There is no confirmation just yet but these specs are bang on for the LSI SandForce Driven solutions we have seen in the rest of the 520 family and, in fact, we can see that the 525 also contains AES 128-bit encryption. The 525 utilizes Intel’s own 24nm NAND flash memory and comes standard with a five year limited warranty.
Here is an early release of Intel internal specs to help things along, although today’s news appears to be a step up in both capacity and IOPS from this early footprint.
As for pricing, Intel doesn’t feel it fair to put forward MSRP as a result of market fluctuation within the SSD arena, however, we can expect early pricing to be close to:
- 30GB – $54
- 60GB – $104
- 90GB – $129
- 120GB – $149
- 180GB – $214
- 240GB – $279
“The Intel SSD 525 Series is Intel’s latest 6 Gb/s mSATA product, which brings high performance to an ultra-portable form factor targeted for Ultrabooks and a myriad of embedded solutions,” said James Slattery, product line manager for Intel Non-Volatile Memory Solutions Group Client SSDs. “Intel SSDs reduce the risk of data loss due to shock, vibration or jarring. With these new performance thresholds available in a small form factor package, and backed by Intel quality and reliability, the Intel SSD 525 opens the door to an unlimited number of creative embedded solutions such as in-flight entertainment, mobile workstations, microservers and IP phone storage.”
