Hitachi has announced the release of their Ultrastar SSD400S.B Series of enterprise SSDs, these SSDs being the first to employ 25nm SLC NAND flash memory ensuring ultra-high performance and endurance. The SSD400S.B features the 6GB/s SAS interface and is available in capacities of 100GB, 200GB, and 400GB.
Specifications detail performance at 536MB/s read and 502MB/s write (64K sequential) with random 4k aligned read and write IOPS at 57.500 and 25.500, respectively. Power consumption efficiency is stated as 8360 IOPS/watt; an important aspect of improving total cost of ownership (TCO).
Although firmware and power management are the result of ‘in house’ engineering, Intel provides their latest 25nm SLC enterprise NAND technology, the 400GB version supporting up to 35 petabytes (PB) of random writes over the 5-year life of the drive. This would equate to 19.2 TB / day in 24/7 operation! With a stated MTBF of 2.0 million hours and annual failure rate of 0.44%, Hitachi is confident in their claims of high reliability to the tune of a 5-year warranty.
The SSD400S.B series are currently being qualified/validated by select O.E.M.’s and Hitachi expects full availability by mid-2012. The complete product page is available here.
