Greenliant Systems, a leading producer of high-security and energy-efficient solid-sate storage devices, is announcing its entry into the removable solid-state drive (SSD) market. Greenliant is sampling its new mSATA ArmourDrive GLS86 product series. The mSATA ArmourDrive is designed toward usage scenarios requiring industrial temperature capabilities, higher reliability and long-life data storage and retrieval.
The mSATA ArmourDrive has an operating temperature range of -40 to +85 degrees Celsius, utilizing either one-bit-per-cell (SLC), or more cost-effective two-bits-per-cell (MLC) NAND Flash memory. This permits Greenliant to offer users an industrial-grade, cost-effective mSATA SSD that meets the space-constrained requirements of embedded systems.
Based on Greenliant’s SATA NANDrive technology, and featuring their own proprietary NAND controller, the mSATA ArmourDrive measures 29.85mm X 50.80mm X 4.80mm; which is consistent with JEDEC standard MO-300. The mSATA ArmourDrive features built-in Power Interrupt Data Protection, which offers added data protection by promptly detecting and recovering from unanticipated power failures. Maximum SSD lifespan is achieved via efficient wear-leveling algorithms.
The GLS86 mSATA ArmourDrive series also feature user-configurable security settings, offering different protection zones and/or military-grade secure-erase commands. SSD health monitoring is enabled via SMART command support; and performance is improved via TRIM command support. The energy-efficient mSATA ArnourDrive requires a power supply of only 3.3 volts, consumes 210mW in standby mode and a mere 70mW in sleep mode.
According to Michael Yang, principal analyst for memory and storage at iSuppli Corporation, “mSATA is growing in popularity in embedded applications and it makes sense for Greenliant to add mSATA ArmourDrive to its industrial SSD portfolio. Leveraging its NAND controller know-how is a significant differentiator for SSD suppliers such as Greenliant.”
Nobu Higuchi, vice president of application engineering and marketing for Greenliant Systems states that “Building on Greenliant’s expertise in embedded storage, mSATA ArmourDrive complements our NANDrive product family. mSATA ArmourDrive gives customers the features and benefits of NANDrive, including technical and long-term support, in a removable, small form factor.”
Greenliant is currently sampling the GLS86 mSATA ArmourDrive in industrial-temperature MLC capacities of 8GB, 16GB, 32GB and 64GB. Industrial-grade SLC capacities of 8GB, 16GB and 32GB are also in sampling. Availability will be through Greeliant’s authorized distributors.
