This morning at Computex, Patriot announced their newest addition to the SSD family, the Scorch NVMe PCIe 3 SSD. This SSD is the first we have seen containing the Phison PS5008-E8 controller and provides an introduction to the two lane value NVMe family.
The Patriot Scorch is a PCIe Gen 3 X2 M.2 2280 SSD, and as such, speaks to performance of 1200MB/s read and 800MB/s write with an mtbf of 2 mil hours. No indication of IOPS was present and this wasn’t a live demonstration, but Phison specifications speak to IOPS of up to 240,000. Lastly, there is no set date for release and only a 240GB version is displayed at Computex, however, we will surely see higher capacities on release.
Patriot also had their concept Spark External SSD on display with initial indications of capacities ranging from 128-960GB. This external SSD will be USB 3.0 with read and write speeds up to 465MB/s read and 460MB/s write. No pricing or release date was mentioned and we have to admit that this small external felt great in hand.
