The memory market has seen a lot of fluctuation and change in the past year.
RAM timings have gotten lower, performance has gotten better, and prices have submarined to a point where consumers can easily afford to fill their entire DIMM slots.
Because of these market conditions, many memory manufacturers have slowed down their production, offerings, and some have even closed shop.
After the dust has settled, the Taiwanese G.SKILL Team remains standing and, by the looks of the plethora of offerings in their DDR3 line-up, it is clear that they are in it for the long-haul.
“G. SKILL”, established in 1989 by enthusiasts, is a leading memory module manufacturer based in Taipei, Taiwan. With traditional strengths, they have built an excellent reputation by meeting market demand and fostering business competitiveness both locally and internationally with their dedication to provide competitive prices, on-time delivery, assured quality, customer-oriented services and diversity of products.
Though aimed mainly at Intels new second-generation Core processors, G.SKILL have also prepared for AMDs new Llano APU architecture. This architecture integrates a CPU and a GPU on the same die, thus improving data transfer rates between these components while reducing power consumption, with the dependant, limiting component for two processes being solely the amount of system memory present.
Consequently, this review will be taking a look at G.SKILLs aggressively named RipjawsX Series DDR3 memory kit. Flavored in an 8GBs capacity, 4GBs per stick, the modules run at 1866MHz. Named F3-14900CL9D-8GBXL, the sticks run at CAS 9, with timings of 9-10-9-28-2T latencies, but more importantly, with only an efficient 1.5V.
Being a respected leader in the memory market, especially among the overclocking community, I have high expectations of this kit as both an overclocker and enthusiast. Before I get into the review however, I would like to thank G.SKILL for providing this kit for testing and review purposes.
