OCZ Opens the Gates With Several SSD Introductions – Storage Visions 2012 Update

OCZ showed up a bit late to Storage Visions 2012 this morning but, as expected, they had no shortage of product introductions on display.

With news of the new jointly developed ‘Kilimanjaro’ platform still fresh on everyone’s mind, OCZ was more than happy to display their new mini-PCIe entry along with the Z-Drive R5 PCIe SSD, the Z-5 containing no less than 16 of these new processors.  The Marvell/OCZ stamped controller is something that nobody would have predicted just a short time ago.

Although specific performance of the R5 has yet to be pinned down, the scalable ‘Kilimanjaro’ controllers allow direct communication with the host system, eliminating the necessity of the RAID chip.  This can mean nothing less than amazing performance as yet another bottleneck is eliminated from the component listing.
