Foremay Launches World’s First 2TB SATA 2.5″ SSD

Foremay has announced the world’s first SATA interface 2TB SSD in the 2.5″ form factor and has made available these characteristics in both their the SC199 and TC166 SSD families.  The SC199 version targets military, aerospace, medical, and other mission critical applications with enhanced vibration, shock, drop resistance, and wide temperature tolerances as much as -40 ~ +85°C or wider (depending upon customer requirement).  The TC166 version addresses terminal computing environments that require low power consumption, long battery life, robustness against shock/ vibration/ drops, long life-time, data protection and security, noiseless operation, low heat generation, and improved system performance.

ForeMay Main

Both SSD models support SMART, Advanced Power Management (APM), and error correction routines.   Optional features include fast erase, MIL-SPEC secure erase methods, hardware based encryption and conformal coatings.  Pricing and availability are not currently known, but Foremay indicates the SSDs are in active production as of January 15, 2013.  Both SSDs are available in just about every known form factor and, depending on that chosen, may reach SATA 3 speeds of 550MB/s read and 510MB/s write performance.  The only form factor that appears to support SATA 3 at the 2TB capacity, however, is the 3.5″ desktop version.
