Most firmware for onboard sata solutions will be wrapped into a newer bios revision as the OROM is bundled together in the bios revivion itself.

So, unless you have very specific issues with compatibility or some type of bug on that particular board?.. really nothing to be gained by flashing that firmware. If you use another version posted on a 3rd party site like station drivers?.. you can brick your board.. or at the very least cause the need to reflash the bios to get the Marvell OROM working properly. Hardly worth the risk, IMHO.

Not sure what you mean by.. "I enter Marvell bios in Gigabyte bios but then nothing i can do". If you have drives connected to the Marvell chip?.. then you should see the option to initialize them and set up a raid on the chip. There is also a software utility that will allow you to do it within Windows as well. Aside from HDD raids?.. you would not want to use that chip for raiding SSD though. Hope that helps a bit

I got tempted myself at times to update the BIOS of on-board third-party SATA controllers (Silicon Image and Marvell) but I resisted the urge. groberts is right, if it ain't broke don't fix it.

yes with firmware unless there is some *confirmed* performance increase that would be specific to your setup, or a bug fix that is *essential* to you, i wouldn't play with it. Especially with a mobo!
