Straight from the NVELO DATAPLEX web page:

"Dataplex continuously monitors the way "you" are using "your" applications and data, and automatically keeps those files ready on the SSD for optimal performance. In a typical PC configuration, Dataplex delivers SSD-level performance by using as little as 32GB of SSD as a cache for your existing HDD. Finally, a single drive letter that delivers SSD performance, HDD capacity, and no data management or migration tasks for you! Simply plug and play!"

NVELO also claims their DATAPLEX software works with any ssd and any hard disk drive. The software must be purchased through a vendor.

I am not surprised that a SATA 3 6Gb/s ssd operates at or near SATA 3 levels - providing the cache contains the applications and files to be used.

Les, would it stand to reason that a 7200 rpm HDD such as the WD1002FAEX ,1 TB, 64mb cache, SataIII would result in even faster performance than the 5400rpm Samsung 1TB used in your testing?

Entirely possible and this was brought up by many in testing of the Revo Hybrid with its standard 5400RPM drive. The unfortunate part, however, is that the Dataplex software is tied to the drive once activated so I cannot change the drive now.

Thanks for the review! Looks like an interesting option.
Just to clarify the statement above - if your mechanical drive fails you lose the licence for the Dataplex software?

At that price point, I might just jump in and grab one. If I do I will post the before and after results.

    128gb or 64gb?

Thank you so much for the review. I have been waiting for a review before picking on of these up. The only last question! Is it worth it to get a 128gb drive? or is 64gb sufficient? I have a 1tb hdd. Will the 128gb give better performance?

Considering I pulled full performance from the 64GB version and they are over provisioned at 50%, I would be confident that this SSD will serve you well for some time. Think about it... It has 30GB of strictly caching! eheh

I am kinda new to the idea of caching for a hdd. So the over provisioning is for what?

So basically 128gb version would kinda be a waste/overkill? Would never really be utilized?

If that's the case I will save the money and get the 64gb version! I just don't want to shortchange myself.

Also my system is a SATA 2 system. AMD Phenom II x6 1100t - 8gb of ram. Do you think the 64gb version would be just fine?

I am very excited to find out it improved your performance that much for boot times. That's one of the biggest things I wanted to improve on my system. I am contemplating caching because I have a 1tb WD black hdd that is almost 50% full. Also, it would be cool to improve the performance of my game load times as well as boot times and app loading (with boot ssd of 120gb I would only be able to boost speed of boot and apps - not games).

Just trying to figure out if there would be any benefit to getting the more expensive 128gb version.
