Question Regarding Deleted Thread - ADDRESSED.

I logged in today and was pretty surprised at the deletion of Bill's Vantage score thread. It's one thing to close down a thread and another entirely to actually remove it altogether.

Discreet threads were created so as to not clutter up review threads(which seemed to be an entirely reasonable concern).

Insinuations were made nearly to the point of attack(which seemed entirely out of line given the time frame from original post.. almost 5 months?.. seriously?).

Questions were asked in the guise of a knowledge request(c'mon guys.. it doesn't take a psychologist to see territorial male pride and ego at work here).

Aplogies were made(although they were quickly overshadowed by yet more babbling non-sentence broken questions/remarks. They were still included(at least twice) and should still be taken into consideration. And if that's not sufficient?.. that's what PM's should be for).

Answers were given(although maybe not in the most diplomatic way by the OP. I actually thought they were legitimate and serious questions being asked/aswered and spent nearly 20 minutes resonding to them.. silly me. I kind'a knew what was happening the very minute I read this BS. Should have trusted my instincts a bit more and saved myself the trouble as I surely know a "peen" arguing with another "peen" when I see one).

Threads were rightfully closed as to avoid further heated discussion with little resolution at that particular time(all I can say is that Bill is known to keep on and on about something until this happens so no surprise there really. That should have been the end of it at that particular point and further discussion/PM's should have been considered from there as the thread actually took a realistic turn for the better by simply pointing out the need to dig deeper into test results due to so many variables being involved. Not a bad subject at all really).

Threads were deleted(not cool at all here guys. If I wanted to see this kind of crap ocurring I can just stick it out over at the mfgrs forums where freedom of speech and personal opinion is squashed with heavy handed corporate fly swatters. In no way shape or form was this particular thread out of line. In fact.. it sat for that many months without a single reply and only came current when someone wanted to pick a bone that was starting to poke through the his skin. Pretty thin skin it appears).

All involved here should just try to keep in mind that by trying too hard to maintain a status quo or censoring too heavily(which is surely the case here) there is potential to alienate some members from contributing around here. If it's going to just be a "country club" full of elites with only management subscribed input allowed?.. then good luck keeping the diversity of posts coming and memberships high. Always good to keep in mind that at the end of the day?.. everyone's sh*t stinks. Some just moreso than others on any particular day, is all.

    groberts101,

What you say has merit, an individual has the right to his opinion. However, and I feel you'd agree, factual, accurate info/data on any site is important. Not only to our forum, but any forum on the internet.

Learning by example is a method of teaching, the only method -- Albert Einstein

All claims should be repeatable, by anyone. And a full disclosure of the method and equipment used should be provided to prove the theory or result.

    Groberts101,

I will respond here and close the thread but it as well will be deleted after 24 hours.

With respect to that situation, it was a situation which was sometime coming and there was reasoning that did not lie solely on the responses seen. In this case, the affected person is an SSD reviewer for another site and has an avenue of forums to follow up on his test results there. I do not feel that it is appropriate for either site to bring those results here, especially when they may bring into question the work we do here, as unintentional as it may be.

It is much the same as my heading to another website that reviews SSDs and throwing in all of my benchmarks and opinions when there is an avenue for this which is here. The same set of circumstances would not be allowed on any website.

With respect to the results, I let the discussion carry on simply because I wanted to examine the reasoning to have such high results. Perhaps he was on to something, at least that is what I was hoping. At the end of the day, the answer could not be found and the discussion moved onto comparisons of other reviewers and sites results.

In short, I felt the thread detrimental to our purpose, the other member, as well as other sites mentioned. There were PM's and the member who started the thread had no concerns with our clarifying the direction we want to follow as a site here. He is happy. We are happy and, unfortunately we are left with your disappointment as you did contribute to the thread with a very detailed and thought provoking response.

My only response is that of an apology but sometimes decisions have to be made for the best of, not only the site, but also members and even those outside of the site. This was one of those cases. Should you wish to move on, my regrets and know that we do value your input here.

While I personally did not delete this thread, I must concur with its execution.

The OP felt attacked, embarrassed, falsely accused, or "set upon" if you will. His perception of the comments made, were taken as personal in nature.

Considering those perceptions, and feelings, I believe it was reasonable to remove the thread, rather than continue untoward additional rhetoric.

I am absolutely convinced that no thread on this forum, in fact no individual post on these forums would ever be deleted simply because of a difference of opinion.

If that were not the case, I'd be the very first staff member to resign.
